Puzzle pieces are hidden about in each level too that when collected will fill in murals back in the HUB area. OK365 can be unlocked later and competing with others online to see who can finish a level in the best time can be quite addictive. The PlayStation 5 even gives me notifications when I get online if someone on my friends list beat my score which makes me want to keep jumping back in to take my spot back. Add-On Trophies in Astro Playroom provide extra challenges beyond the main game.

Astro’s Playroom was announced on June 11, 2020, at the PlayStation 5 reveal event.[5] The game was released on November 12, 2020 to generally favorable reviews from critics. If you boot up Astro’s Playroom today, you’ll see an in-game announcement entitled “New Game Update”. As shared at ResetEra, it’s thought the new free content has arrived to usher in the recently announced platformer Astro Bot, which is scheduled to release on 6th September, 2024. To reveal the Special Bot on Bot Beach, walk onto multiple starfish in a particular order on the beach. To free them, you’ll have to copy what they do via dances you can do as the Astro Bot. Each press on the D-Pad is a different dance, and the one that the Special Bot will do is randomized.

These are the icons for the Xross Media Bar, which debuted on the 2003 PSX console in Japan, but is more known for its use on the PSP, PS3 and on Bravia TVs. The logos are still in use today, with the exception of the old PSN logo. One of the displays that you can unlock for the Labo area is a Bot with a mess of cards with various “PS” logos. These are actually all of Manabu Sakamoto’s designs for the PlayStation logo, before he landed on the one still in use today. In the PlayStation Labo area below the entryway is a device that lets you view all your Artefacts up close. The device is a PocketStation, a peripheral for the PS1 that was part Memory Card.

Here, you’ll have to pull some cables to reach a new area above and defeat some nearby enemies. However, before you get through the wall by pulling the cables in some rock ahead, look to the left and walk into the flower petals to reveal a Special Bot. As the precursor to Astro Bot, Astro’s Playroom is a great platformer that all PS5 owners will have for free when they first get their console. It has four key sections, all referencing other PlayStation games and devices while remaining a challenging platformer that uses all the unique design choices the DualShock 5 controller offers. The frog suit of Cooling Springs is an absolute treasure in its DualSense use, though the levels are not necessarily my favorites.

Both titles are solid 3D platformers and must-haves for a PS5 owner – granted, one of them comes for free, anyway. The platform design is rarely all that inspired though and we’re still very disappointed that all the enemies are direct rip-offs of Mario enemies, even relatively obscure ones like Pokey and Wiggler. They act and are defeated in exactly the same way, which seems like the act of a hopelessly uninspired wannabe, which is the exact opposite impression you get from every other aspect of the game. From here, jump right through two glass panels, but instead of using the switch on the right, jump left to get onto a platform with water on it, then left again through some glass.

Puzzle Piece 3/4 – After another couple of checkpoints, you’ll reach a series of second colored rooms. In the red room with the spinning mines, you can find this puzzle piece rotating along between two of them. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – On the main path just after the checkpoint there will be an explosive enemy standing in the middle of the area. Jump and hold over top of it to ignite it, and when it explodes it reveals this puzzle piece underneath.

Astro’s Playroom Review – A Uniquely Tactile Platformer That’s The Beating Heart Of Ps5

They reference 2001’s Jak and Daxter, made by Naughty Dog for the PS2. This is specifically a reference to the first game thanks to the lush setting and the Bot’s crossed arms, just like the cover art for that game. Further along the area where the Horizon and Dreams easter eggs are will be some vines you can move by blowing into your microphone. Inside the cave on the right is a coffin, which if you punch will cause a blonde figure to emerge and pull the lid back on. This references the Castlevania series, specifically 1997’s Symphony of the Night on PS1, by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo.

Thanks to analytics company Newzoo, we learned what kind of next-gen games Americans played in the first days after the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A full walkthrough will take you step-by-step from the start of the game to 100% completion, while the Collectibles section helps you find every Artefact and Puzzle Piece in the game! There’s even a Trophies section to help you earn that coveted Platinum Trophy. The gameplay features minimal cartoonish violence across each stage. For PlayStation die-hards, a run through Astro’s Playroom will be true bliss.

The DualShock 3 was the PS3’s main controller, and the first PlayStation controller to be wireless (well, sort of; see below). It swaped the Analog button for the Home button, and had convex triggers for L2 and R2. Its primary new feature was SIXAXIS motion sensing that let you move and rotate the controller to control the game, a feature still in use today. The PSP Go was the smallest version of the PSP, removing the disc drive and having a screen that slid up to reveal the buttons underneath.

Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right after getting into the spring suit, charge a jump to the left to break through the glass to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – On the lower floor of CPU Plaza, pull the three wires on the platform in the corner by the ramp down to reveal this puzzle piece. Every area had the same problem of mandatory physical interaction to get through the level, none of which were doable for me. Every single level reached a point where I couldn’t proceed, leaving me no choice but to ask for help. There are no options in the menu to adjust any controls whatsoever – all motion and physical controls are mandatory.

Astro’s Playroom launched over four years ago, but developer Team Asobi has since released a few updates for the fan-favorite game. Astro’s Playroom has this infectious charm, even down to its main character, who is so cute and loveable. Sony is losing money because it does not have a plushie of an Astro Bot. From a tropical beach to a cyberpunk raceway, they nail many areas. Everything pops, and with so much detail, you can spend quite a bit just exploring.
